10th May, Saturday, 20:00 / Tickets:

The May screenings will kick off with the 1916 Danish silent apocalypse film Verdens Undergang (The End Of The World), directed by August Blom, starring Olaf Fønss, Carl Lauritzen, Ebba Thomsen, and Johanne Fritz-Petersen.

The film depicts a worldwide catastrophe when an errant comet passes by Earth and causes natural disasters and social unrest. Blom and his crew created special effects for the comet disaster using showers of fiery sparks and shrouds of smoke. The film attracted a huge audience because of fears generated during the passing of Halley's comet six years earlier (1910), as well as the ongoing turbulence and unrest of World War I (sounds familiar, isn`t it?).

Screenings with live piano accompaniment by Mila Maia

*****
IMDb RATING: 6.5/10
ROTTEN TOMATOES: 79%

Doors and Wine Bar from 7:30pm.

RATED: PG | TIME: 70 minutes

SELECT ONE OPTION:
1. 24th May, Saturday, 20:00 / Tickets:

Maya Deren makes a return to Silent Cinema, showcasing her short films alongside live music from the incredible boys band from hell - Xoanon! We will feature The Private Life of the Cat (c. 1945), Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), and At Land (1944).

Deren, a Ukrainian-born American experimental filmmaker, played a significant role in the avant-garde movement during the 1940s and 1950s.

She believed that the purpose of film was to evoke an experience. She skillfully blended her knowledge of dance and choreography with ethnography, the African spiritual practice of Haitian Vodou, symbolist poetry, and gestalt psychology.

Like Deren, we are passionate about the idea that film should create an experience. That's why we are thrilled to have Galway-based Xoanon join us, as their music, much like Maya's films, breaks away from conventional norms, exploring realms beyond space and time.

Doors and Wine Bar open from 7:30 PM

RATED: PG | TIME: 60 minutes

SELECT ONE OPTION:
1.
